Jessie Gordon’s Approximate Folk

Jessie Gordon’s Approximate Folk (JGAF for short) is a seven piece musical ferris wheel - one that’s possibly on fire depending on the day. Featuring Jessie's original music, there’s aching blues, rollicking country, a cheeky bit of swing, some lush ballads and some general nonsense (our favourite). The band features Jessie’s long-time dream team rhythm section Karl Florisson on double bass and Michael Perkins on drums, as well as the incredibly fast-fingered Jon Knox-Matthews on electric guitar. In the front line Jessie is joined by Grammy award winning pedal steel player Lucky Oceans and virtuoso violinist Emily Gelineau. Approximate Folk is incomplete without the incomparable Mark Turner.

"I swear we could have stayed all night and still begged for one last song" ★★★★★ Fringefeed, 2023

Show Duration: 45 - 90 minutes

DIRTY JAZZ

Sultry, flame-haired Jessie is joined by a solo piano player and together, they will introduce you to the seedy underbelly of the pop music of the 1930s and 40s, exploring the wonderfully dirty lyrics and double meanings hidden in this classic genre. Be prepared for a saucy, smutty, stripping back of the Golden Era of Swing, replete with illegal libations, dark corner adultery, illicit drugs and more food references than you'll know what to do with.

“The perfect combination of energetic jazz, polished cabaret and professionally delivered filth” ★★★★ The West Australian, 2017

Show Duration: 55 minutes
